  • The Paiute Indians first legend says that they were the people left in a cut open sack
and that they were blessed and placed in the very best place possible.
  • The Numic Speaking people began moving to the Great Basin and Colorado Plateau around 1000 A.D.
  • The Paiutes homeland spanned more then 30 million acres. Present day Southern California,
Southern Nevada, South-Central Utah, and Northern Arizona.
  • The Paiute Indians moved around a lot mostly due to the season changes.
  • They also moved according to plant harvests, and animal migration patterns. They had plants, animals, and fish for food.
  • They lived in independent groups of three to five households.
  • The Spanish settlement in the southwest brought violence and disruption to the Paiute Indians.
